It is no surprise that one in three Deliveroo riders in Scottish cities have been paid below the minimum wage.
Figures analysed by the The Ferret and the Bureau Local, based on data from riders across the country, has pieced together a picture of the pay rates for riders in cities across Scotland and the UK.
Reporter Karin Goodwin spoke with riders from the Workers Observatory team. We said:
“It’s as if you are playing a game but you don’t know the rules,”
“There can be a sense of freedom about it. But there are also lots of underlying problems and a lack of any sense of connection.
“There are now many people having to depend on it, especially due to Brexit and Covid. There needs to be better legislation to protect these workers.”
